Introduction

The 49th Conference and General Assembly of the African Insurance Organization (AIO) in Algiers (Algeria) attracted a remarkable turnout of over 1,800 experts from more than 70 countries. The aim of this high-level meeting was to examine the challenges of insurance and food security in Africa.

Details

The 49th conference of the African Insurance Organization (AIO) will be held in Algiers from May 27 to 31, 2023.

The theme of the conference is "The contribution of insurance to the challenges of food security in Africa", with a view to elevating agricultural insurance to the status of a "development factor". A highly topical subject.

The organization of the conference has been entrusted to the Union algérienne des sociétés d'assurances et de réassurances, according to a press release.

No fewer than 1,800 participants are expected to attend, including heads of African insurance and reinsurance companies, representatives of international organizations, as well as experts and other specialists.

They will be exchanging ideas and expertise on topics relating to the insurance industry and its development in Africa, the role of the insurance sector in food security, and the promotion of inter-African cooperation in insurance and reinsurance.

The AIO was founded in 1972 in Mauritius. It is a non-governmental organization with headquarters in Douala, Cameroon, and 381 members (363 African and 14 non-African).
